As a romantic surrealist…the main impetus of my work is the communication of explaining the idea of liberating ones mind, self and society. To see what we don't want to see. To explain the unexplainable. To make tangible that which seemed unreachable. I reach deep into all that is true in myself and my unconscious mind; be they experience, dreamscapes or past. No one leaves this earth without experiencing tremendous pain and extreme joy. Truer than life to me is the exploration of examining religion, heritage, culture, sex, abuse and political life. I do not define my life... my life defines me through my art. I do not hide behind the truth of others. My work is MY TRUTH!!! For he who fears his life... embraces death. I paint what I have seen. I strive to enhance the things which appeal to me in each subject. By voiding certain colors, I rearrange the world as I see it by making other colors the focus. The grey series is an expression of my life. I took things which meant a lot to me, such as my heritage and past; voided all color with the exception of that which were the focal point. The blue series; The soul of us manifested creatively. Our lives are more than the physical manifestation. Spiritually we are connected one to another as if we were a whole. The blues…jazz series isn't about exactly what comes to mind. By it's definition. It is the life of us. What makes us whole… what drives us…the ultimate connection? The blues isn't just sad tales… it's the good, the bad, the life. Jazz is the movement of our life…The dance. One may ask why hip hop and rap are included. Life is music and visa versa. The blues is story telling. Hip hop, Rhythm and Blues, jazz and etc. are all stories that connect us to each other. This series is the true fusion of art and design that's music to your eyes. What drives me to create my work…? Life. My passion in life is communication. I use my work to communicate all that is important to me. My dreams and aspirations as well as the past. Seeing things as they are and as I wish them to be. The therapeutic bond of spiritual and physical manifested on paper is nothing short of miraculous. Sources of influence… Dali, Escher, Picasso, Max Ernst, Yves Tanguy, Lee Miller, Renoir and Dorothea Tanning. |
